Asphalt Plant Tour

The one fact that surprised me the most is the "shelf life" of hot asphalt -- approximately one hour. I originally thought that you could build a HMA plant anywhere, even in far-off remote areas, and it didn't need to be built close to residential areas. It may not have been as close as the Vulcan GV facility is to QC, but it does have to be relatively close to where the asphalt is to be applied. [Rich U]

• 1/3 of the year there were 250 trucks/day at Marana Plant.

• 1/2 production is aggregate and 1/4 production is concrete. 

• Trucks weigh 80,000 lbs when loaded.
